Special Issue on Demographic Changes in India
About the Special Issue:
Demographic transformation occupies a central place in the developmental trajectory of nations. India is currently undergoing a profound demographic transition and this demographic window of opportunity holds considerable promise for accelerating economic growth and advancing the nation's aspiration to become a Viksit Bharat by 2047. India's demographic transition is, however, far from uniform: it is marked by pronounced regional variation and is deeply intertwined with the country's socio-economic fabric, dimensions that warrant rigorous and sustained scholarly inquiry.
In this context, this Special Issue of Artha Vijñāna invites original, unpublished scholarly contributions that critically examine the determinants, patterns, and consequences of demographic change in India. Suggested thematic areas include, but are not limited to: fertility and mortality transitions; internal and international migration; urbanisation; the demographic dividend and its regional heterogeneity; population ageing; gender dimensions of demographic change; illegal migration; and the attendant implications for public policy.
