Abstract
This study assesses the export performance of India's textile sector from 1990 to 2020, highlighting growth, competitiveness, and market trends through Balassa's index and Dominance Rank analysis. It notes fluctuations in export values and a decline in global standing, with significant markets in the US, UK, and UAE. Product-level analysis shows that seven of eleven products exhibit a highly competitive advantage, particularly cotton, vegetable fibres, carpets, and silk, although silk's advantage is declining. India competed effectively against China and Vietnam but experienced declines in the comparative advantage of silk. The study identifies opportunities to enhance India's global textile competitiveness.
